Kuari Pass Trek route was explored and popularized during the British time of Lord Curzon rule. It is also regarded as the "Curzon Trail" as it was developed especially so that erstwhile Viceroy of India, who himself was a keen trekker, could go trekking in the mighty Himalayas. Winter Kuari Pass trek is one of most popular trek routes till date. Kuari Pass top looks like a serene amphitheater with great views of some of the most majestic Himalayan Peaks, a few amongst them include Mt. Kamet (7756m), Mt. Trishul (7120m), Chaukhamba (7128m), and the great Nanda Devi (7817m). Several other peaks present an equally picturesque view include – Nanda Ghunti, Dronagiri, Neelkanth, Hathi Ghoda Parbat, Mana, Mukut Parbat, etc. The Kuari Pass trek route is short yet amazing in the sense it takes in three lesser passes and five major rivers of the region - Pindar, Kaliganga, Mandakini, Bheriganga and the Dhauliganga.
The departure begins from our meeting place in Haridwar from where we drive up to Joshimath. The trek starts from Joshimath, in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, which has evolved into a hub for trekkers in this part of the Himalayas. The trek then takes you through the small remote Himalayan villages. Walking along the Curzon trail through these villages is a great way to see and learn the life of the people inhabiting the region. A great part of the trek is walking through the beautiful Himalayan meadows, called 'Bugyals' in the local language. This enchanting view of Bugyals, especially Gorson Bugyal casts a magical spell on you. On this trek, you will also visit the town of Auli, which is famous ski center in the region. Kuari Pass Winter Trek is a visual treat in itself with fresh white snow present everywhere as we go higher in the Curzon trail. You can also see a different variety of trees, flowers and even pugmarks of leopards and Himalayan black bear on the trail.
If you're planning a trek, an off-beat trip, a week-long getaway, relaxing and peaceful trail, experience in the wilderness, or simply some great adventure, Kuari Pass (with Crazy Peaks, of course) should certainly be on top of that list!
