Description

Prabalgad: is situated on northeast side of Panvel, on Mumbai-Pune road. One can see it from the express highway a V-Shaped one. The Left one is Kalwantin Durg & right side is Prabalgad. It is located on a plateau very close to Matheran. It was known as Muranjan until it was taken over and renamed by the Maratha forces under Shivaji’s rule.

There is a dense forest on the way till the top of Fort Prabal. Historical references indicate that Freedom fighter Umaji Naik made a stay here in 1826. The fort top commands an excellent view of the surroundings with Kalavantin in the front. Matheran, Chanderi, Shrimallang, Irshal Karnala, Manikgad, etc can be easily identified.
