an absolutely stunning little bird, sporting bright yellow, red, and bluish-black plumage - The Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher is also known as the Black-backed Kingfisher or Three-toed Kingfisher is a species of bird in the Alcedinidae family. This is a widespread resident of lowland forest, endemic across much of the Indian Subcontinent and Southeast Asia.

Water plays an important role in their lives-- they breed during the very wet monsoon season and they feed on aquatic animals.

The campsite at Chiplun (Konkan, Western Ghats) also shelters numerous exotic species of Reptiles (Crocodiles, Snakes, Lizards, Chameleon, geckos), Amphibians (caecilians, frogs & toads) and insects (Butterflies, moths, beetles, bugs and lots more) which can satisfy our photographic desires to its fullest !!
